Public forum on proposed Community Preservation Act for Westhampton set for Nov. 1
WESTHAMPTON — A second public forum on a proposed Community Preservation Act fund for the town will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall.
Initially slated for Oct. 29, the forum was rescheduled after tropical storm Sandy blew through the region earlier this week.
The forum, sponsored by the town’s Open Space Committee, will offer residents a chance to ask questions about a ballot item voters will decide next week. Question 5 on the ballot proposes the creation of a Community Preservation Act fund for open space, recreation, historic preservation and affordable housing projects. The money would come from a 3 percent property tax surcharge on all property in Westhampton and matching state funds.
This is the second attempt to create such a fund for Westhampton. The previous effort in 2001 failed by 16 votes.
