Former president Evan Dobelle drops federal suit against Westfield State University

NORTHAMPTON — Former Westfield State University president Evan S. Dobelle dropped his federal lawsuit against university and state officials on Thursday, just days after his attorneys requested to withdraw from the case, citing his failure to pay them. Dobelle and the defendants in the case agreed that it was best to cease the litigation and dismiss the case, Dobelle’s lead attorney, Ross H. Garber of Hartford, Connecticut, said in a statement issued Thursday night. In the lawsuit, Dobelle accused the defendants of defamation, civil rights violations and breach of contract, among other complaints, during investigations into his questionable spending.
