Westfield couple charged with abusing teen
WESTFIELD (AP) — Two Westfield residents were arraigned on charges that they sexually abused a 14-year-old girl, raped her and used her to create pornography.
Nathaniel Justin Lami, 31, and Leonne Anne Vieu, 22, were ordered held on bail at their arraignment Tuesday in Westfield District Court on charges of statutory aggravated rape of a child, lascivious posing or exhibiting of a child in the nude, distribution of a live performance of obscene matter, indecent assault and battery on a child 14 years of age or older and reckless endangerment to a child.
Lami was also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, distribution of obscene matter and possession of child pornography.
Lami was held on $25,000 bail and Vieu on $5,000 bail.
Prosecutor Mary Partyka said in court that the girl and Vieu and had been neighbors and she saw Lami as a “big brother figure,” according to The Westfield News. The girl lived in the same room as the defendants during April school vacation, Partyka said.
A search warrant executed at the apartment turned up evidence including what was described as a “sex slave contract” the girl signed agreeing to keep the situation secret.
Vieu’s lawyer asked that her client be released on personal recognizance. The attorney said her client believed the victim had agreed to the sexual acts.
She said her client also did not know that Lami had sexual encounters with the girl without her.
Lami’s lawyer asked that his client, described as a self-employed carpenter, be fitted with a GPS device and released so he could continue to support himself.
Police Capt. Michael McCabe said the department is investigating the possibility that there are other victims, based on the evidence uncovered at the apartment.
