Monday’s high schools: Northampton girls lacrosse wins in overtime to qualify for postseason
Molly King scored her second goal early in overtime and the Northampton girls lacrosse team held off Brattleboro Union for a 9-8 road victory on Monday night that clinched a tournament berth for the Blue Devils.
King finished with two goals and two assists for Hamp (9-8), which allowed second-half leads of 6-3 and 8-6 to slip away.
Emily Allcroft also scored twice, while Kerry Fleming had a goal and an assist. Shannon Keefe, Missie Maiewski, Leila Kouakou and Emily Biggs added a tally apiece.
Bridget Harrington made 10 saves to notch the win in goal.
Central 6, Hampshire Regional 5 — After leading for most of the game, the Raiders gave up five in the sixth and one in the seventh to fall at home.
The loss means Hampshire (8-9) needs to beat Monson at 4 p.m. Tuesday to reach the Western Massachusetts Tournament.
Christian Macutkiewicz had two hits and drove in a run for the Raiders, while Nick Batchelder added a single and an RBI.
Westfield Vocational 14, Smith Vocational 7 — Jason Talbot had two hits, scored twice and knocked in two for the Vikings (0-17) in the road defeat.
Henry Tharion picked up his first varsity hit and scored two runs for Smith Voke, while Kevin Wackerbarth added a hit and a run.
Hopkins Academy 6, Pioneer Regional 2 — Andrew Omer’s four-hitter kept the Golden Hawks (8-9, 7-7 Hampshire) alive for a postseason berth with the win in Northfield.
Omer allowed a single earned run and struck out eight for Hopkins. Evan Delaney went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Brett Morrison (run) had two hits and knocked in two, while Tim Knightly added a hit and scored twice.
Ludlow 14, Northampton 3 — In a game that was resumed after it started on May 8, the Blue Devils couldn’t climb out of a 7-0 hole and fell at home.
Northampton (8-10, 4-4 Suburban) needs to win its last two games — at Belchertown Tuesday, 4 p.m., and at Ludlow, Friday 4 p.m.— to reach the postseason.
Zach Goodwin-Boyd was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI, while Mack Hale added a single and an RBI.
Chicopee Comp 8, South Hadley 2 — The Tigers (4-14, 2-7 Suburban) allowed seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and suffered the road loss.
Pat Sears had two hits and drove in a run for South Hadley, while Mike Paleologopoulos added an RBI. Nick Robert had two hits, with Pedro Santiago and Liam Medina scoring a run each.
The Tigers can still qualify for the tournament if they beat Palmer Wednesday night and Belchertown Friday afternoon. Both games are on the road.
Lenox 7, Holyoke Catholic 5 — Jeff Laprade went 2-for-3, while Nick Murray and Tim Orzechowski (two walks) each had one hit in the road loss.
