Frontier Regional towns to pay $6,984,771
DEERFIELD — The Frontier Regional School Committee has approved a $9,855,695 budget for next year, meaning the district’s four feeder towns would pay $6,984,771 for next school year.
The budget increased $466,861, or 4.97 percent, from the current school year.
The breakdown for the four towns is as follows: Deerfield would pay $3,260,522; Sunderland, $1,737,316; Whately, $925,545; and Conway, $1,061,388.
The total assessment is 6.65 percent more than the district paid this year.
Deerfield would pay 9.32 percent more than the current year, Sunderland, 1.06 percent more, Whately, 1 percent less, and Conway, 16.3 percent more.
The assessments combine the costs for operation, debt and transportation. It is based on the five-year rolling enrollment. The number of students from Sunderland and Whately have decreased over the past few years.
The budget must be approved by voters in each of the four towns at annual Town Meetings this spring.
The assessments have decreased from the original proposed increase of 8.53 percent after town selectmen and finance members raised concerns. To reduce the assessments, the School Committee plan to take $40,000 from the surplus fund.
