Shoppers may be eagerly anticipating the deals they’ll find when they head out to area stores on Black Friday. They may want to add these destinations to their list: The Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society adoption centers in Springfield and Leverett.
On Friday, every cat six months and older up for adoption at Dakin’s centers can go home for $5. The adoption fee includes all the trimmings: spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, testing, microchipping, a jewel-tone collar, an ID tag and a starter bag of food.
Leslie Harris, Dakin’s executive director, said, “We’re eager to see great cats find new homes and, in addition, adopting one of our $5 felines helps Dakin make room for cats in need of placement from shelters in Hurricane Sandy ravaged areas.”
Dakin is assisting other animal welfare organizations in areas hard hit by superstorm Sandy by receiving animals already in shelters when the storm hit. This enables New Jersey animal welfare personnel to better help local animals lost or displaced as a result of the storm, Harris said.
Dakin’s adoption centers — at 171 Union St. in Springfield or the Leverett Adoption Center, 163 Montague Road — will be open Friday from noon to 5:30 p.m. More information is available at Dakin’s website, dpvhs.org.
