Weekend Planner — Music

A celebration of the choral works of Benjamin Britten by the Lenox-based Cantilena Chamber Choir, Sunday’s Benjamin Britten 100th Birthday Concert at Trinity Church in Lenox is part of e_SDLqBritten 100,” a world-wide concatenation of events and activities commemorating the centenary of the British composer’s birth (1913). Britten wrote numerous works for children (“The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra” is a classic), and the Cantilena Chamber Choir has tapped two youthful Valley vocal ensembles for the occasion to perform one of them. Joining the choir for the 3 p.m. concert, the South Hadley Children’s Chorus (pictured) and the Hampshire Young People’s Chorus Concert Choir will sing “Friday Afternoon,” Britten’s cycle of 12 children’s songs.

$20 at the door. Trinity Church is located at 88 Walker St. in Lenox. 518-791-0185 or satbchoir@yahoo.com
