Suspect to be charged in attempted theft from South Hadley storage unit
SOUTH HADLEY — Police took reports this month of one theft and one attempted theft at Community Self Storage on Industrial Drive.
At 4:01 p.m. Oct. 4, police took a report from a Holyoke man who, after not visiting his storage unit for about a month, found his lock gone and that approximately $2,000 worth of furniture, clothing, a TV and other items also were missing.
At 3:34 p.m. on Oct. 3, a Chicopee man reported that he went to his unit to find his lock cut and a man in the act of loading items from his unit into a pickup truck. The suspect told the owner that someone had told him to remove the items, police said. The suspect then unloaded his truck and returned the items to the storage unit, police said.
The suspect, a 39-year-old Chicopee man, will be summoned to Eastern Hampshire District Court on charges of felony daytime breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property under $250 and larceny over $250.
