South Hadley's Werenski finishes tied for 12th at New England Amateur Golf Championship
South Hadley’s Mickey Werenski finished tied for 12th after the third and final round of the New England Amateur Golf Championship at Killington, Vt., Thursday.
Werenski is one of three participants who represented the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley at the event.
Werenski shot a 72 to finish with a 3-over par 216. He bogeyed the third hole, but birdied the fourth. He ended the front nine at plus-2.
After a promising start to the back nine with a birdie on the 10th, Werenski bogeyed two of the next five. He completed the back nine with three bogeys and two birdies to finish eight strokes behind winner Evan Russell.
Russell, a member of the Country Club of Vermont, won the title at 5-under 74.
Sean Gaudette of South Hadley tied for 39th following his 74 in the final round. He shot 72 and 78 in the first two rounds Tuesday and Wednesday.
Gaudette started the back nine with an eagle on the 10th but struggled down the stretch to finish 17 shots back.
Jim Hosey came in 19 shots back, for 46th with a final-round 76 Thursday.
