Tuesday’s high schools: Easthampton baseball rallies to beat Turners Falls

The Easthampton baseball team scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth for a come-from-behind 8-5 win over Turners Falls at Daley Field on Tuesday.

Chris Starcun (two hits) and Zachary Edwards (two hits) each hit two-run home runs in the game.

Edwards’ blast tied the game in the sixth and Alan Gormley (three hits) broke it open later in the frame with a bases-loaded single down the left-field line.

Zach Lewis had three hits and an RBI in the win.

Starcun went the distance on the mound, allowing eight hits and one walk while striking out six.

Frontier Regional 3, Pioneer Regional 0 — Peter Watroba gave up a two-run single in the first inning and didn’t surrender another hit the rest of the way.

He struck out and six and walked just one for the Red Hawks (3-0, 2-0 Hampshire).

Rylan Baronas had an RBI double in the first and scored a run in the third. Ryan Hoar added a single and stole three bases, while Matt Ackerman had two hits and two stolen bases.

Holyoke Catholic 11, Sci-Tech 3 — Jeff Laprade tossed six one-hit innings as the Gaels (1-4) dominated in Springfield.

Laprade, who had a no-hitter through 52∕3 innings, struck out seven and walked one.

Dorian Guidi had three of Holyoke Catholic’s 11 hits, scored two runs and drove in another.

Nick Murray (two doubles, two runs, RBI) and Tom Heavren (two RBIs, two runs) added two hits each.

South Hadley 6, Longmeadow 3 — Five different players had one hit as the Tigers (1-4) won at home.

Nate Flachs scored three times and had an RBI, while Liam Murphy drove in a pair.

Peter Luchini earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief work.

Hampshire Regional 10, Ware 6 — Eddie Hagelstein and Cody Payson each had a hit and three RBIs as the Raiders (1-2) won on the road.

Hampshire scored nine runs in the first two innings and held on for the victory.

Brandon Weynant struck out four in four innings of relief to earn the win on the mound.

Mahar Regional 5, Hopkins Academy 4 (9) — Evan Delaney had three doubles and scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Golden Hawks (1-4, 0-2 Hampshire) lost in Hadley.

Tim Knightly had two hits, including the tying single to score Delaney and force extra innings.

Nick Bernard (RBI) and Ethan Wenner added two hits each.

Southwick 10, Gateway Regional 1 — Donnie Haskell had two hits and scored the lone run for the Gators (1-3, 1-2 Bi-County) who fell at on the road.

Softball

Granby 8, Holyoke Catholic 5 — Tessa Cote had two triples and two RBIs at the plate and tossed a four-hitter in the circle as the Rams (3-1) won at home.

Cote struck out eight and walked five in the victory.

Noelle Menard and Jennifer Cadigan added two hits and two RBIs each.

Megan Logan had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for the Gaels (2-2) and was also the losing pitcher after allowing 11 hits and four walks while striking out eight.

Julie Carroll and Anna DeSimone added a hit and a run scored apiece.

Northampton 15, Chicopee 2 (5) — Kristin Gross (hit, RBI, three walks), Mary Greco (two hits, two RBIs), Hannah Rome (hit, RBI) and Allie Vanasse (hit) each scored two runs as the Blue Devils cruised at Szot Park in Chicopee.

Greco allowed three hits in the win.

The Blue Devils (4-1) earned 12 walks.

Minnechaug 6, Belchertown 3 — Samantha Manitsas struck out 12 and walked only one in a complete-game loss for the Orioles (4-3) at home.

Emily Silva went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Belchertown, while Téa Spellacy also had a pair of hits. Manitsas and Mackenzie Yelle each drove in run, with Hannah Flink and Erin Reed-Coates scoring once apiece.

Girls lacrosse

Belchertown 17, Holyoke Catholic 5 — Kayla Panek scored five goals and added an assist as the Orioles (3-3, 2-1 Valley) won at home.

Natalie Caney (two assists), Kat Lowe (one assist), Emma Jopson (one assist), Kate Bowers and Chloe Zinter added one goal each.

Emma Cyr, Abby Robinson and Candy Avery scored once each.

Abbey Norden made six saves in the victory.

Elizabeth Klejna and Rita Hannoush each scored twice for the Gaels (2-2, 1-2) in the loss.

Lexi Neffinger added a goal.

Katie Klejna made 13 saves.

Boys lacrosse

Belchertown 12, Chicopee Comp 1 — Austin Duhaime scored three times as the Orioles (1-4) picked up their first win of the season at home.

Alex Bachand (one assist), Aaron Krasinkiewicz and Ryan Dupont (one assist) scored twice each.

Alex Wordsworth, Jacob Downs and Ben Margarian each scored once.

Jason Krasinkiewicz was credited with two assists, while Jordan Auffrey had one.

Travis Greeley made six saves.

Longmeadow 7, Northampton 4 — The Lancers scored three unanswered goals in the final seven minutes to break the tie and edge the Blue Devils in Hamp.

Jared Yarde led Northampton with two goals, while Alex Zadworny and Simon Harrity each had one. Peter Higgins and Cody Malone had an assist apiece. Tyler Walsh made 16 saves and Bryce Wall stopped two shots for the Blue Devils (3-2, 0-2 Valley Wheel).
