Local gymnasts win state titles

Jessica Wilda, 10, of South Hadley, placed first in the level 5A all-around at the Massachusetts USA Gymnastics State Cup, held March 10 in Holyoke.

Wilda, who competes for Thompsons Gymnastics Center in South Hadley, scored a 9.175 on vault, 9.250 on bars, 9.075 on beam and 9.425 on floor for a combined score of 36.925.

Anthea Spirko from Hampshire Gymnastics in Amherst won the all-around at level 5C for 9 year olds with a score of 37.700. Spirko was first on beam (9.625) and was third on bars (9.375) and floor (9.450). She was fifth on vault (9.250).

Hampshire placed ninth in level 5.

Emma Elson from Hampshire Gymnastics won the all-around at level 6A for 12 year olds with a score of 37.075.

Elson placed first on vault (9.400), beam (9.550) and floor (9.450). She was fourth on bars (8.675).

Virginia Canella placed first on floor (9.525) and was third in the all-around at level 5D for 10 year olds.

Kassidy Lawrence of Thompsons placed first on floor (9.250) and was first in the all-around 36.250 for level 6 13 year olds.
