Monday’s girls volleyball: Amherst earns another 5-set win to remain undefeated
The Amherst Regional girls volleyball team has started its season 3-0 the hard way.
For the third time in as many matches, the Hurricanes needed all five sets to earn a victory, knocking off West Springfield 3-2 on the road Monday night.
“If we could get it done in less than five, that would be awesome,” coach Kacey Schmitt said. “But I will take (the win) any way we can get it.”
Justine Bohl finished with 38 assists and four digs as Amherst won 25-18, 25-27, 24-26, 25-17, 15-13.
Cassie Long contributed 27 digs, while Shaya Shally-Jensen added 18 kills. Julia Fay had eight kills, three blocks and three digs.
“They don’t give up and they stay positive,” Schmitt said. “They believe in each other and their ability to stay up has carried them through the challenges so far.”
Easthampton 3, Pioneer Regional 0 — The Eagles (1-2) earned their first victory of the season with the road sweep, 26-24, 25-18, 25-18.
Caelin Mottor led Easthampton with five kills and four aces. Hajar Akanour had three aces, two kills and two digs, while Amanda Lambert added two kills and an ace.
Turners Falls 3, Belchertown 1 — Jennifer Ollari-Barry had four kills, but the Orioles (0-3) fell 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21 on the road.
