Valley Views: Local photographers aim their cameras outdoors

Whately Road, Conway

Photograph and text by Judy Cummings of West Deerfield

As I was driving home, taking the back roads through Conway, my eye noticed a golden glow off to the right. I had my camera and tripod with me, so I stopped to investigate. It was late afternoon in mid-November, and the setting sun cast wonderful warm light onto the hillside behind the beaver pond on Whately Road. This was then reflected in the water and thin ice that had formed on the pond. I have returned to this location a few times since then, but this image continues to be my favorite. It was created with a tripod-mounted D-SLR camera and a short telephoto lens.

Judy Cummings is affiliated with the Robert Floyd Photo Gallery, 2 East St., College Highway, Southampton. Other nature images are on view there Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
