Pamela Adams, of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, took home the grand prize in the commercial category at the fifth annual America’s Best Raisin Bread Contest, with her Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread recipe. The contest is sponsored by the California Raisin Marketing Board, marking National Raisin Bread Month in November.

Danya Rubin, daughter of Alan Rubin and Helen MacMellon of Amherst, spent her junior semester abroad in Paris, where she worked as a research lab assistant at the Ecole Nationale Veterinaire d’Alfort studying muscular dystrophy in golden retrievers. Danya Rubin is a senior at Scripps College in Claremont, Calif.


Kathleen Mahoney of Easthampton earned a master’s degree in literature and writing from Union Institute & University in Cincinnati, Ohio, in October.


Amy E. Wright, daughter of Margaret and Jonathan Wright of Northampton, is serving as an emergency medical technician (EMT) at Hamilton College, Canton, N.Y., this year. Amy Wright is a sophomore at Hamilton College and a graduate of Williston Northampton School in Easthampton.


Navy Seaman Michelle A. Jasinski, daughter of Mary A. and Joseph W. Jasinski of Southampton, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Jasinski completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. Jasinski is a 2012 graduate of Hampshire Regional High School in Westhampton.
