Valley Views Local photographers aim their cameras outdoors

College Highway, Southampton

Photograph and text by Andrew Brodeur of Southampton

This beautiful hawk was about 40 feet up in a tree on Route 10, very close to the Westfield- Southampton line. When I noticed it, I pulled over quickly, jumped out of my truck and started creating images. It sat there seemingly undisturbed by my presence — and even tolerated another car pulling over so that driver could also take some pictures. I thanked the hawk for a gracious opportunity and left him sitting there for others to enjoy. This image was captured with a digital point-and-capture camera. It is my constant and reliable sidekick every time I leave the house.

Andrew Brodeur is affiliated with the Robert Floyd Photo Gallery, 2 East St., Southampton. During the summer, other images are on view at the gallery, which is open by appointment. After Labor Day, regular hours are Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m.
