Monday’s boys soccer: Amherst rebounds with win over rival Northampton
Eric Gooden scored a pair of goals as the Amherst Regional boys soccer team rebounded from a season-opening loss to defeat Northampton on the road Monday.
Jesse Welborn and Jack McGowan added one goal each, while Noa Iimura was credited with an assist for the Hurricanes (1-1), who fell to Belchertown in their opener Friday.
Louie Jacob converted a penalty kick for the Blue Devils (1-1).
Jon Brodeur made 12 saves in goal for Hamp, while Mike Rock stopped one in the victory.
Belchertown 1, Agawam 0 — Noah Lussier scored off an assist from Cam Messier as the Orioles (3-0, 2-0 Churchill) remained undefeated with a win on the road.
Lewis Berger made six saves for his second shutout of the season.
South Hadley 3, Commerce 1 — Nate Flachs put in all three tallies as the Tigers (1-0) won in Springfield for their first victory.
Chris Jerritt and AJ Mercer picked up an assist apiece for South Hadley, while Colin Paleologopoulos stopped 12 shots in the win.
Renaissance 5, Granby 0 — Brett Sullivan made six saves but the Rams (0-2-1) were blanked on the road.

Ian Robson scored Amherst’s lone goal with an assist from Hadrian Rodriguez. Mike Rock made 14 saves in the 2-1 loss to Belchertown.
