Tuesday’s swimming: Unbeaten Northampton girls defeat Minnechaug

In a battle of unbeaten girls swimming & diving teams Tuesday afternoon, Northampton rolled to a 126.5-59.5 victory over Minnechaug at JFK Middle School.

Freshman Erin Voss set the program record in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1 minute, 55.36 seconds. The previous mark was 1:56.86, set by Caitlin Driscoll in 2008.

Voss also took first in the 50 free at 25.39 seconds for Hamp (5-0, 1-0 Minuteman) in its league opener. Stephanie Jordan, Kerry Fleming, Miranda Wingfield and Maela Whitcomb all won an individual event.

A pair of one-loss teams met in South Hadley as the Tigers beat Belchertown 50-44.

Sabree Thomas won the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly, while Mackenzie Werenski won the 500 free and 100 back to spark South Hadley (5-1, 1-0 Patriot).
