Democrats schedule town caucuses

Democrats in Granby, Plainfield and South Hadley have set caucuses this month and next to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2013 Platform Convention.

Convention delegates will debate and adopt a new party platform for the next four years. The convention will be held at the Tsongas Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on July 13.

All registered Democrats of the towns are eligible to participate. Those not elected to serve as a delegate or an alternate, but who meet the qualifications, may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority and disabled.

∎ Granby Democrats will hold a caucus Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at the Public Safety Complex Conference Room. The Granby Democratic Caucus will elect three delegates and three alternates to go to the convention. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women. For questions, call Committee Chairperson Emre Evren at 467-2926.

∎ In Plainfield, Democrats will hold a caucus on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. at Plainfield Town Hall, 348 Main St. The caucus will elect one delegate and one alternate.

∎ South Hadley Democrats will hold their caucus on March 2 at 2 p.m. at South Hadley Town Hall, where they will elect 10 delegates (five male; five female) and three alternates to head to the convention. Registration begins at 1:30 and closes at 2, at which time the caucus will begin.

Candidates for delegate and alternate must consent to nomination in writing and must be present at the caucus.

The committee normally meets on a monthly basis; meeting dates, times and locations are posted at the town’s website. For information, contact Sarah Etelman at 570-0715 or setelman@gmail.com or Ann Eaton at 533-0346 or ann.eaton1@gmail.com.
