Senior Paul Decker scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Frontier Regional boys basketball team to a 58-38 road victory over Easthampton on Thursday night.

Peter Watroba added 17 in the win for the Red Hawks (3-2, 3-2 Hampshire West), who outscored Easthampton 23-6 in the fourth quarter to turn a three-point game into a rout.

Chris Starcun had 19 points to pace the Eagles (4-3, 2-3 Hampshire East).

Amherst Regional 54, Commerce 39 — The Hurricanes (3-2) received a double-double from Noris Cuevas-Nova as they moved over the .500 mark with an independent victory in Springfield.

Cuevas-Nova had team highs of 12 points and 19 rebounds, with four steals and a pair of blocked shots.

Tom Cook, James Sowers and Isaac Siegel all scored eight points off the bench for Amherst. The trio led the ’Canes to a 16-6 run in the second quarter as they took an 11-point advantage into the half.

Ware 72, Holyoke Catholic 57 — Jeff Laprade scored 20 and Nathan Golob added 17, but the Gaels (0-6, 0-1 Bi-County South) fell on the road in their league opener.

Hockey

Cathedral 4, Newburyport 1 — Adam Mercer of Belchertown stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced as the Panthers won the championship game of the Cape Cod Freezeout Thursday.

Peter Crinella had a hat trick and an assist in the victory for Cathedral (5-1), winners of five games in a row.
