WATER SKI OPENER: The Oxbow Water Ski Show Team will kick off its summer performance season July 5 at 7 p.m. at the Oxbow Sports Center at 100 Old Springfield Road.

The show theme is “Iwannaski Wedding,” and pyramids, jumps, swivel skiing, wakeboarding and barefoot skiing are some of the stunts to be featured in the long-standing team’s annual event.

Free and open to the public, shows will also be offered on Fridays July 5, July 12, 19 and Thursday, July 25, all at 7 p.m.

The Oxbow Water Ski Show Team was founded in 1980 by 24 original members, and now has 55 members ranging in age from 1 to 59. Last year, the team placed first for the 11th time in the Eastern Regional Show Ski Competition.

The team practices in June and July and performs on Fridays throughout July. This year, practices got off to a slow start with high water due to unseasonable rains, said President Becci Ziemba.

Other team performances this summer are July 6 at 4 and 6 p.m., at the Hartford Riverfest; July 11, 5 p.m., Greater Easthampton Chamber of Commerce Networking by Night, at the Oxbow Sports Center. (Cost is $5 for chamber members and $15 for non-members.); July 27-28, 29th annual Eastern Region Ski Show Tournament, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days, at the Oxbow Sports Center. Admission is free; cost to park is $5.

MANNA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Manna soup kitchen is seeking volunteers to help with summer Meals. Manna is looking for occasional or regular volunteers for weekly meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays through the.

Volunteers assist in food preparation and set tables, serve our guests, clear the dining room and clean up. Volunteers are welcome to dine with our guests or take home a dinner. Monday noon dinners are at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Elm St.; Wednesday evening dinners and Saturday noon lunches are served at Edwards Church.
