Area police news
■ Ramus Serrano, 42, of Springfield, was arrested about 1:54 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant and Short streets on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
■ Police received a report of a vehicle parked in the lot at 125 Pleasant St. having its passenger side window smashed out sometime between 9 p.m. and midnight Wednesday. Nothing was stolen, police said.
■ Police responded to a report of a woman being bitten by a dog about 3:56 p.m. Wednesday at Paradise Pond Apartments on West Street. According to police, a neighbor’s dog, an 18-month-old Shih Tzu-Maltese mix, allegedly got loose, ran next door and bit the woman on her chest and didn’t release its grip until its owner came and retrieved it. The alleged victim was treated at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for the bite and the dog’s owner provided paperwork to show its rabies vaccines were up to date. The animal control officer is investigating.
■ A 15-year-old Northampton boy was arrested about 11:24 a.m. Wednesday at the Hampshire Educational Collaborative on a charge of trespassing after allegedly refusing to leave the 228 Pleasant St. campus when requested to do so, police said.
