Easthampton man arrested after allegedly pointing handgun at people in Northampton and Hadley

Brett James Rowley, 36, of 250 Main St., Unit 4, was arrested at 8:25 a.m. on charges of disorderly conduct and assault with a dangerous weapon, Hadley Police Chief Dennis Hukowicz said.

He said Northampton police notified his department about an incident involving a motorist showing what appeared to be a gun. A short time later, Hadley police got a call from a witness about a similar incident on Route 9.

“He waved the handgun out the window of the vehicle he was driving,” Hukowicz said.

The witness in Hadley reported that Rowley shook the handgun three times before pointing it directly at him.

Rowley was found a short time later at a Route 9 business where he works and was taken into custody, Hukowicz said.

Northampton police then arrested Rowley at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday at the Hampshire County Courthouse on a warrant issued by Northampton District Court on two charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and one charge of disorderly conduct (subsequent offense).

Hukowicz said both department are still determining whether the handgun pointed at people was genuine or a toy.
