Northampton High School, Class of 2013

Editor’s Note: Members of the Class of 2013 were invited to submit information about their activities at NHS and their plans. Their responses are below.

Addison B. Adams, son of Beth and Garrett Adams, will attend Tulane University in New Orleans. He was a member of the soccer team, Ultimate Frisbee team, National Honor Society, Key Club and Ski Club.

Ethan T.C. Bein, son of Martha Coons and Thomas Bein, will attend Tufts University in Medford. He was a member of the A2Z Yo-Yo Team, Springfield Youth Orchestra and Band.

Olivia T. Bernstein, daughter of Chuck and Wendy Bernstein, will attend American University in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the varsity tennis team.

Reeves Connolly, son of James F. Connolly and Jayne Reeves, will attend Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. He was a member of the Northampton varsity swimming team and served as captain, participated in HYV swimming, and was a Northampton Recreation Department lifeguard.

Andrew R. Cooper, son of Richard E. Cooper and Catherine M. Kay, will attend the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance. He was a member of the NHS Student Senate, the NHS Band and the Springfield Youth Orchestra.

Benjamin R. Cooper, son of Richard E. Cooper and Catherine M. Kay, will attend St. Olaf College in Minnesota. He was a member of the Northampton High School Student Senate, the Massachusetts Student Advisory Council and the NHS Band.

Kyley Z. Eastman, daughter of Glenn and Zetta Eastman, will attend UMass Lowell to study physical therapy. She was a member of a dance team at the Heart and Soul Dance Academy.

Andrew J. Fleming, son of John and Sheila Fleming, will attend Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. He was a member of the varsity lacrosse, hockey and soccer teams.

Elizabeth J. Fleming, daughter of Jean and Robert Fleming, will attend UMass Amherst.

Katherine I. Gardner, daughter of June and Robert Gardner, will attend Southern Vermont College. She participated in outdoor track, indoor track and cross-country.

Asher M.H. Gryska, son of Ellen Hirschberg and Mark Gryska, will attend Alfred University in New York.

Jonah C. Hahn, son of Kenneth Hahn and Sharon Saline, will attend Harvard University, Cambridge. He was a member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society, played soccer and tennis, and served on the Northampton Youth Commission, the NHS Student Senate, the School Council, and the Academic Team.

Charles O. Hale, son of Ted and Molly Hale, will attend Haverford College in Pennsylvania. He was a member of Pipe Dreams.

Mackenzie B. Hale, son of James and Susan Hale, will attend Middlebury College in Vermont. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Kiwanis Key Club, and participated in varsity basketball and varsity baseball, serving as captain of both. He received the Florence Savings Bank Eric Stahlberg Jr. Memorial Award Scholarship, the Big Y scholarship, the John & Abigal Adams scholarship, the Virginia Aquadro Memorial scholarship, and the Hampshire Franklin Baseball Umpires Association scholarship.

He was a member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society, played soccer and tennis, and served on the Northampton Youth Commission, the NHS Student Senate, the School Council, and the Academic Team.

Phoebe R.H. Jones, daughter of Daniel Jones and Cathi Hanauer, will attend Barnard College in New York. She was a member of the dance team at the Northampton School of Dance, a four-year member of varsity tennis, co-president of the Environmental Club, and a member of the National Honor Society.

Laura E. Krok-Horton, daughter of Robert Horton and Diane Krok, will attend Smith College. She participated in fencing, theater and drama, Chamber Choir, the Environmental Club, the Interact Club, Ceramics Club and InvenTeam.

Katherine O. Lesko, daughter of Bill and Jill Lesko of Northampton, will attend Loyola University, Maryland. She was a member of the tennis team, the swim team, National Honor Society, Key Club, the Arts and Crafts Club, and the Ski Club.

Jacob S. Levitt, son of Sam Levitt and Ellen Goldsmith, will attend the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Ultimate Frisbee, Improv Comedy, Key Club, Northampton Robotics and the National Honor Society; he also participated in indoor track, soccer and theatrical productions.

Tyler W. MacDonald, son of Michelle M. O’Brien and the late John R. MacDonald, will attend Fisher College, Boston. He was a member of the baseball team, and a volunteer at Manna Soup Kitchen. He achieved first honor roll, and was dual-enrolled in his senior year at NHS and Greenfield Community College. He received the Mark and Patricia Bradford Memorial Scholarship, the Fisher College Trustees Scholarship, the Fisher College Psychology Studies Scholarship and the Fisher College Achievement Scholarship.

Emily Maki, daughter of Sara and Neil Maki, will attend DiGrigoli Cosmetology School, West Springfield. She was a member of the yearbook staff, GSA and the Ukulele Club.

Allie Grace Martineau, daughter of Holly and Steven Martineau, will attend the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams. She was a member of the Sci-Fi Club, the MOST art club, and worked on the Keywords literary magazine.

Avery M. Mencher, son of Julie Mencher, will attend Bard College in. New York. He was a member of the lacrosse team, Key Club and Pipe Dreams.

Sarah A. Moss-Horwitz, daughter of Mark Horwitz and Julia Moss, will attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Will I. Norris, son of John Norris and Abbie Steiner, will attend Tufts University. He was a member of the Ultimate Frisbee and soccer teams, the Ping-Pong Club, and Pipe Dreams.

Shannon R. O’Leary, daughter of Nina and Steve O’Leary, will attend Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. She was a four-year member of the varsity field hockey and varsity softball teams, serving two years as captain. She also participated in Club and USA field hockey programs, and was on the honor roll.

Parthavi D. Patel, daughter of Dipan Patel and Kirti Patel, will attend UMass Lowell. She was a member of InvenTeam, a volunteer at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, and participated in Dance Team at the Heart and Soul Dance Academy.

Rady Pheng, daughter of Sovannary and Roeun Chea, will attend UMass Amherst. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, and participated in the musical “Grease.”

Benjamin B. Ramsey, son of Nancy and Jeffry Ramsey, will attend Vassar College, New York. He was a member of the marching and concert bands, the Springfield Youth Orchestra, the cross-country team, pit orchestra, the Massachusetts Senior Western District Orchestra, Massachusetts All-State Orchestra, the Ultimate Frisbee team and the National Honor Society.

Samantha N. Rizzo, daughter of Christine Dutton and Donna Meller, will attend Bridgewater State University. She was a member of the Northampton cross-country team, and participated in indoor/outdoor track and Ultimate Frisbee. She was in the musical “Annie” and attended American Running Camp in Rhode Island.

Thomas M. Savarese, son of Joseph and Cathy-Ann Savarese, will attend Rochester Institute of Technology, New York. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity soccer team.

Alessandria J. Schumacher, daughter of Lorraine Mangione and Jim Schumacher, will attend Middlebury College in Vermont. She was a member of the Model UN Club, the Band, the National Honor Society, the Latin class trip to Italy, and the ski team; she was also producer of a student-directed play.

Puneet K. Singh, daughter of Paramjit Kaur and Hardev Singh will attend UMass Amherst. She was a member of InvenTeam, Interact Club, the National Honor Society, the Ceramics Club, and was a volunteer at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and at the Hospice Shop.

Katherine Sperry will attend Carleton College, Northfield, Minn. She participated in Northampton Community Rowing and the Model United Nations.

Joni M. Sullivan, daughter of Mark and Robbie Sullivan, will attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She was a member of the cross-country and the indoor and outdoor track teams, Honors Art, Kay Club, Youth Commission, the National Honor Society and student government.

Leah R. Tompkins, daughter of Tim and Val Tompkins, will attend UMass Amherst. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and the varsity soccer, and varsity winter and spring track teams.

Caleb J.R. Toner, son of Teresa Toner, will attend Holyoke Community College. He was a member of Best Buddies, Theater Club, Generation Q and T.R.E.E. (Trans Rights Education and Empowerment).

Jamie Yurgielewicz, daughter of Nancy Miller and James Yurgielewicz, will attend Connecticut College in New London. She was a four-year member of the varsity swim team and served as captain, a three-year member of the Key Club, secretary of the Northampton Mayor’s Youth Commission, a four-year honor roll student, and a member of the National Honor Society.
