Kenneth Russell of Haydenville held on $50,000 bail after denying drug charges
NORTHAMPTON — A 42-year-old Haydenville man is being held on $50,000 bail after denying drug charges Thursday in Northampton District Court.
Kenneth E. Russell, 2 Laurel Road, pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a Class B drug (marijuana) with intent to distribute and possession of a Class D drug (cocaine) with intent to distribute.
Both counts are being charged as subsequent offenses according to court records.
According to court files, the Northwestern District Anti-Crime Task Force obtained search warrants for Russell, his car, his cell phone and his home as apart of an ongoing investigation.
About 11:56 a.m. Wednesday, Russell was stopped at the Leeds Package Store on Route 9 and searched.
In his car, police said they found individually wrapped plastic bags packed with what they believe to be marijuana, plastic bags with suspected cocaine inside, a digital scale and other items.
Police searched Russell’s home and recovered 14.1 grams of a powder that tested positive for cocaine, $1,950 in cash, an electronic scale and multiple plastic bags of various sizes, according to court documents.
Police said Russell has prior convictions for drug trafficking and possession with intent to distribute.
He is due back in court on June 13 for a bail hearing.
