Smith Academy senior Mike Molloy knew how many hits he needed for milestone No. 100 before he took to Arcanum Field to face Smith Vocational Monday.

Molloy is working on a school project with his history teacher and coach, Jeff Pluta, that looks at athletic records at Smith.

Needing four hits, Molloy reached the milestone with a 4-for-4 effort in a 34-0 victory in five innings over the Vikings.

“I honestly didn’t think I’d get it,” said Molloy, who is from Greenfield but attends Smith Academy through school choice. “It’s always a tough task getting four hits in a game.

Molloy had two hits in the second inning, one in the third and one in the fourth.

“Once I got the first two, I really realized it was within reach,” Molloy said. “After that I focused on trying to get those (last) two.”

Eighth-grader John Ferrara also went 4-for-4 for his first career hits at Smith Academy (14-3).

Jason Talbot had two hits for the Vikings (0-14).

Hopkins Academy 4, Frontier Regional 3 — After scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh, Tim Knightly wriggled out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the bottom of the inning to push the Golden Hawks past the Red Hawks in South Deerfield.

Knightly struck out three, allowed eight hits and four walks. He had three hits and scored twice. Ethan Wenner added four hits and drove in two for Hopkins (4-9, 3-9 Hampshire). Sean Quill, who started the seventh inning rally and scored the tying run, had two doubles.

Niko Ames led Frontier (10-4, 8-2 Hampshire) with two hits, two stolen bases and two runs scored, while Rylan Baronas had a single, a triple and an RBI.

Mahar 5, Easthampton 4 — The Eagles (7-6, 5-6 Hampshire) staged a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh but fell short at home.

Shy Torres had three hits with an RBI and run scored for Easthampton. Chris Starcun stroked a run-scoring double and scored once, while Kyle Richards added a sacrifice fly.

Starcun picked up the loss, allowing five runs over six-plus innings. He struck out four.

Granby 8, Pioneer Valley Christian 0 — Brett Sullivan was dominant on the mound and at the plate as the Rams rolled over the Eagles on the road.

Sullivan scattered three hits and didn’t walk anybody. He struck out five in the complete-game win.

His first-inning two-run home run was part of a three-hit, three-RBI day. Travis Padgett added two hits, including a solo homer immediately following Sullivan’s.

Belchertown 5, Southwick 3 — Eric Adzima allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts in the complete-game victory for the Orioles (4-11) on the road.

Tommy Daley went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jim Kusnierz, James Ryan, Jon Mastalerz and Andrew Davidsohn all drove in one run.
