Tuesday’s colleges: UMass softball beats Boston College
The University of Massachusetts softball team beat Boston College 7-4 Tuesday in Boston.
The Minutewomen (10-17) finished with 10 hits and seven walks, but left 11 runners on base.
Quianna Diaz-Patterson was 3-for-3 with two walks. Teea Rogers and Sam Gray each had two RBIs.
Caroline Raymond struck out four for the win.
Smith 1, Westfield State 0; Smith 4, Westfield State 3 (9) — Gina Martucci pitched a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts in Game 1, then followed with five innings of three-hit relief in Game 2 as the Pioneers (6-14) snapped a 12-game losing streak with the sweep in Northampton.
Springfield 19, Smith College 9 — Jessica Lillquist had three goals, while Petru Bester and Rachel Silveria each had two but the Pioneers (3-9, 0-3 NEWMAC) fell on the road.
