“I’ve had a memorable and rewarding experience on the council,” Freeman-Daniels said in an emailed statement after the council’s Thursday meeting.

“I thank the voters of Ward 3 for twice choosing me to represent them and for their support during my time in office,” he said.

Freeman-Daniels was elected in the summer of 2011 to fill the final five months of a term vacated by former councilor Angela Plassmann, who resigned her position on the council in April of that year. He was elected again in November for his current two-year term.

The 33-year-old councilor said he tried to provide accountability, attention to detail and good process during his time on the council.

Great oversight

While a supporter of the mayor’s effort to restore fiscal health to the city, Freeman-Daniels has also advocated for more council involvement and greater oversight of public assets and the administration.

“I believe my approach has resulted in more constructive and substantive debate, and greater attention to detail by public officials,” Freeman-Daniels said in the statement.

He called Ward 3 the most interesting place in the city and said he hopes residents have been as proud of him as he has been proud to represent them.

Monday is the first day to take out papers for the November municipal election.

Freeman-Daniels’ friend on the council, At-Large City Councilor Jesse M. Adams, announced earlier this week that he intends to seek re-election.

No other candidates have made official announcements.
