ADVANCE DIRECTIVES

Hospice Services of Western Massachusetts offers a program on Five Wishes living wills April 24 at 1 p.m. at the Easthampton Council on Aging Enrichment Center, 19 Union St., Easthampton.

Five Wishes lets family and doctors know who you want to make health care decisions for you when you can’t make them, including the kind of medical treatment you prefer, how comfortable you want to be, what you want loved ones to know, and more.

The event is free and open to the public. Call the Enrichment Center at 527-6151 to pre-register by April 22.

BAYSTATE TB EXPERT HONORED

Dr. Ralph Kendall of Baystate Medical Center has received an award for his work in the field of treating tuberculosis.

Kendall, a Hadley resident who works at Baystate Medical Center’s TB Clinic in Springfield, received a TB Honor Roll Award last month. He has been addressing tuberculosis in Massachusetts for more than 40 years. In addition, Kendall received state citations from state legislators Sen. Stanley Rosenberg, Rep. John Scibak, Rep. Ellen Story, and others.

HEALTH CLASSES FOR SENIORS

The Northampton Senior Center has started new health classes for seniors.

Classes include Low Impact and Weight Training, and Strengthening and Stretching. Registration deadline for the May session is May 3 and registration deadline for the June session is May 31. An eight-class session is $35 for Northampton seniors and $38 for nonresidents. For more information call 587-1228. The center is located at 67 Conz St.

SOUTHAMPTON MEDICAL PRACTICE OPENS

Southampton Medical Associates celebrates its grand opening with an open house April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Area residents are invited to stop by for free health screenings, which include body mass index tests and blood pressure checks, as well as healthy food and the opportunity to win a pedometer that tracks your steps, calories burned and sleep activity.

The practice is affiliated with Cooley Dickinson Hospital and is accepting new patients age 18 and over. Prospective patients will have a chance to meet nurse practitioner Chalice Santorelli and her collaborating physician, Peter Siersma, M.D.
