Seven companies bid for Deerfield garage construction project
DEERFIELD — Seven construction companies are competing to build the town’s new Department of Public Works facility.
The apparent low bidder is Forish Construction Co. Inc. of Westfield. The building committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen on Wednesday.
Forish Construction has bid $5,214,000 to construct the 15,500-square-foot building. Marois Construction Co. Inc., of South Hadley proposed $5,300,000. Eastern General Construction of Springfield bid $5,720,000. WJ Mountford Co. of South Windsor, Conn. bid $5,436,000. RAC Builders Inc. of Agawam proposed $5,630,000. DA Sullivan & Sons Inc., of Northampton bid $5,627,000 and Soulier & Zepka Construction Inc. of Adams proposed $5,498,000.
The chosen construction company will implement a design created by HKT Architects of Somerville, which the town hired for $454,000 last August.
The proposed main building would be located at the town-owned Oxford property south of the existing facility. It would include a sand and salt shed, fuel depot, exterior covered storage and work site. The new facility would be designed to eliminate problems with the current garage, including inadequate space and warmth for town employees working inside. The existing facility encompasses 3,500 square feet.
