Northampton mayor’s budget meetings continue tonight

Residents who want to bend Mayor David J. Narkewicz’s ear about the city’s fiscal 2014 budget have three more chances to do so, starting tonight at Northampton High School.

The mayor is halfway through a series of six town hall meetings about the budget. He is asking for input from residents before he finalizes a budget for next fiscal year, which begins July 1.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the high school’s Little Theater, 380 Elm St.

Also scheduled for 7 p.m., the last two meetings will take place on Monday, April 1, at the R.K. Finn Ryan Road School gymnasium, 498 Ryan Road, and on Wednesday, April 3, at the Florence Community Center, 140 Pine St.

The city is dealing with a $2.4 million budget gap exacerbated by several factors including health insurance, collective bargaining, state aid and more.
