Tuesday’s colleges: Jenny Bell of Northampton lifts Westfield State past Salem State

The Westfield State women’s basketball team advanced to the semifinal round of the MASCAC tournament with a 63-52 victory over Salem State in Westfield Tuesday.

Jenny Bell of Northampton had nine points, 10 rebounds, three assists and six steals in the win for the Owls (17-9).

Rhode Island 45, UMass 42 — Rashida Timbilla (11 rebounds) and Jasmine Harris each had 14 points but the Minutewomen (3-22, 1-9 Atlantic 10) fell in Kingston, R.I.

Jasmine Watson added five points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists in the loss.

Men’s basketball

Rhode Island College 62, UMass Dartmouth 58 — Jake Laga of Northampton had a game-high 14 points but the Corsairs (5-21) fell in the Little East Conference tournament in Providence, R.I.
