UMass hosts
hospitality career fair

AMHERST — The University of Massachusetts Hospitality and Tourism Management Department will host its annual career day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 6 at the Campus Center Auditorium.

It is the largest student-run career fair in New England, with more than 50 companies attending as well as information sessions, panels and a senior reception.

Credit union donates
to survival centers

HADLEY — UMassFive College Federal Credit Union hosted a cold weather item drive to benefit the Amherst and Northampton Survival Centers in January.

The drive brought in more than 140 items including coats, jackets, gloves, blankets, scarves and sweaters from its Hadley and Northampton branches.

The Amherst and Northampton Survival Centers need cold weather clothing from November until April.

Thibault joins law firm

NORTHAMPTON — Rebecca M. Thibault of Northampton has joined the law firm Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury & Murphy in Springfield.

Thibault previously interned at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Appeals and Dispute Resolution (Western Region).

While in law school, Thibault was managing editor of Washington University Global Studies Law Review.

Her practice includes general corporate, real estate and environmental law.

Turcotte recognized
for leadership

HOLYOKE — Jason Turcotte, owner of Turcotte Data & Design, a website design and development business in Ware, was named the 2012 Director of the Year for Business Networking International (BNI) Western Massachusetts at the organization’s annual banquet Jan. 17 in Holyoke.

Turcotte served as a director consultant for the business networking group for two years, until mid-2012, helping 250 members in 11 chapters in the region by sharing stories of his experience, education and success with the organization. Previously, Turcotte also served as a BNI ambassador for one year.

In June 2012, Turcotte became the Managing Director of the western Massachusetts BNI region, which encompasses Hampshire, Hampden, Franklin and Berkshire counties.

Zeamer achieves national real estate designation

AMHERST — Kathy Zeamer of the Jones Group Realtors has been awarded the Accredited Buyer’s Representation designation by the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council of the National Association of Realtors.

To earn the designation, Zeamer completed a comprehensive course in buyer representation and an elective course focusing on a buyer representation specialty in addition to submitting documentation verifying professional experience.

Acupuncturist joins healing center
in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON — Acupuncturist Frances Towle has joined the staff of CLINIC Alternative Medicines, a multi-disciplinary healing arts center at 98 Main St.

Towle’s clinical focus is on pain relief, fertility issues, stress and chronic headaches. In 2006, Towle earned a master’s degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, Texas. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in anthropology.

Ear, nose, throat center opens

NORTHAMPTON — Dr. Bethany King has opened Hampshire Ear, Nose & Throat at 61 Locust St., across from Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

King is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon. She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery as well as the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of conditions affecting the face, neck, mouth, nose, throat and ear.

She practices at the Aesthetic Laser & Cosmetic Surgery Center, which is owned and operated by her associate, Dr. William Truswell, a facial plastic surgeon.

King completed her undergraduate training at Tulane University and received her medical training at Louisiana State University School of Medicine, both in New Orleans.

Bank donates to five charities

NORTHAMPTON — Greenfield Savings Bank has announced the winners of five $1,000 donations to Northampton area nonprofits.

The recipients were selected by the public as part of the grand opening celebration of the bank’s newest branch at 325A King St.

The five organizations that received the most votes were: Grow Food Northampton, the Northampton Survival Center, Cancer Connection Inc., Safe Passage and ServiceNet Inc.

Nonprofits were nominated through the bank’s Facebook page in early January, and then visitors to the Northampton branch voted for their favorite.

The Bank also has offices in Greenfield, Turners Falls, South Deerfield, Shelburne Falls, Amherst and Conway.

Scruggs named CEO of Loomis

SOUTH HADLEY — David W. Scruggs has joined Loomis Communities as president and chief executive officer.

Scruggs has been chief financial officer for several continuing care retirement communities, most recently at Montereau Inc. in Tulsa, Okla. He was director of continuing care for LeadingAge, an association of not-for-profit organizations.

He has been an instructor in long-term care finance for the School of Public Health at George Washington University and in the Retirement Housing Professionals certification program.

Scruggs has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, and a master’s degree in divinity from Emory University, Atlanta.

Loomis Communities are located on four campuses: Applewood in Amherst, Loomis House in Holyoke, Loomis Village in South Hadley and Reeds Landing in Springfield.

Santorelli joins CDH Southampton office

SOUTHAMPTON — Nurse practitioner Chalice Santorelli will begin seeing patients at Southampton Medical Associates, 6 Parc Place, March 1.

Santorelli has been practicing in the area since 2008, first at Valley Medical Group in Amherst and later at Hadley Family Practice. She also sees patients at Hadley at Elaine Care and Rehabilitation Center. She joined CD Practice Associates, the Cooley Dickinson Hospital-affiliated medical group, in 2012.

Santorelli earned a master’s degree in nursing from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in 2007 and holds dual certification in adult and women’s health care.

A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has obtained a master’s level degree in science, with special training in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions.

Mahoney earns financial certification

NORTHAMPTON — Jim Mahoney III of Northampton Financial Services, 64 Gothic St., has become a certified financial planner.

Fewer than 20 percent of financial planners have been certified by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, according to Northampton Financial Services. Certification involves coursework and an examination covering risk management, investments, tax planning retirement and employee benefits and estate planning.

Mahoney, who has been with the firm since 2010, specializes in financial planning for individuals and families, with expertise in 401k plans for local businesses.

White named president of appraisal group

DOVER, N.H. — Brian W. White, formerly of Easthampton, Mass., has been appointed president of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.

White will represent the New Hampshire Chapter at the Appraisal Institute’s National Conference in Indianapolis this year. He holds both the Member Appraisal Institute and Senior Residential Appraiser designations.

White has 28 years of real estate appraisal experience. He operates White Appraisal in Dover, a firm that specializes in the appraisal of commercial, industrial, investment and special use properties.

Sullivan joins Argotec

GREENFIELD — Lori Sullivan of Leeds has been named customer service representative for Argotec Inc.’s specialty film and sheet extrusion business.

She will have responsibility for interacting with Argotec customers and the firm’s engineering, manufacturing, shipping and accounting departments.

Before joining Argotec, Sullivan spent 24 years working for the Holyoke Machine Co.

She is a 1988 graduate of Bay Path College.
