Wednesday’s high schools: Granby girls too strong for St. Joseph

The Granby girls basketball team’s balanced effort was too much for St. Joseph Wednesday.

All 10 players who same action scored, with nine having at least five points as the Rams won 67-19 at home.

Granby (12-2) jumped out to a 21-8 first-quarter lead and cruised to the independent win.

Meghan Sullivan had 14 points and seven steals, while Casey Imelio added eight.

Briannah Mercier had five points, six rebounds and four steals in the win.

Hampshire 53, McCann 24 — The Raiders (11-3) led 35-15 at halftime and cruised to the win in North Adams.

Sarah Kober had 22 points and nine rebounds, while Chelsea Moussette had eight points and nine steals.

Boys basketball

Amherst Regional 67, Taconic 65 —The Hurricanes (11-3) led by 15 with under five minutes left and held on for the win in Pittsfield.

Tom Cook (seven rebounds) scored four of his eight points in the closing minute to help seal the win, the ’Canes] second in as many nights.

Tyler Peake had 18 points, while Justin Carey added 11 and Reed Bixby 10 for Amherst.

Taconic (6-6) hit four 3-pointers in the final five minutes to make it close.

Belchertown 52, Hampshire 30 — Zach Parsons had 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Orioles (6-7, 1-3 Bi-County North) won their second straight to inch closer to .500.

James Ryan and Tyler Verville each added 13 points in the home win.

Adam Laroche, Shane Andrews and Conor Cronin each had seven points for the Raiders (7-5, 2-2).

South Hadley 80, New Leadership 52 — Anthony Bullough had 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Tigers (7-7, 2-2 Central) qualified for the postseason with the win Tuesday.

Avon White (15), Evan Marcus (14) and T.J. Fitzell (12) also scored in double figures.

The Tigers played great defense, limiting Joe Crapps, Davidson Pacheco and Talon Brown to single digits for the Wildcats (5-7, 1-1).

Palmer 79, Holyoke Catholic 53 — Nathan Golob scored a career-high 26 points but the Gaels (0-11) fell at home Tuesday.
