200 Years Ago

Swan & Lane wish to exchange salt for flaxseed (next door west of Col. Chapman’s Inn in Northampton), where they have for sale a general assortment of piece good and hardware, crockery and glassware, groceries, etc. They also have linseed oil by the barrel or gallon.

A new supply of Dr. Frink’s Grand Restorative Elixir, fresh and refined in an improved manner, is for sale by E. Hunt & Son at their store in Northampton.

100 Years Ago

The only basketball game in Northampton this week will be the one between the YMCA quintet and Williston Seconds in the gymnasium Wednesday evening. Friday evening the YMCA team will play the Deerfield Athletic club in Deerfield.

This morning was the coldest of the winter. It went below zero in many places. It was two below at Foster Bros.’ store and William Grant says it was eight below at this place on the Easthampton road. The Connecticut River skimmed over in many places.

50 Years Ago

A former Northampton man is truly in the money. Francesco Cantarella of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y., has been appointed director of the Chase Manhattan Bank Money Museum at Rockefeller Center. He will continue as a member of the press relations staff at the bank where he has been since May 1961.

The Grand Jury is expected to report back Monday to Superior Court Judge Thomas J. Spring with indictments in one of the heaviest criminal loads ever handled by a Grand Jury here. The report probably will be made some time Monday morning, according to the office of District Attorney Sanford Keedy.
