Parenting TV show offers tips on raising cooperative children

Any parent who’s stood in the middle of a supermarket aisle and watched his child have a compete meltdown — “Why can’t I have Cocoa Puffs?” — knows the feeling of helplessness that can come with raising children.

A community access cable TV show, “Creating Cooperative Kids,” seeks to give parents tools to deal with the problematic behavior of children from 18 months to 18 years old.

The one-hour show, which airs on both Northampton and Easthampton’s community television channels, is hosted by author and parenting expert Bill Corbett, who is a native of Hatfield and a graduate of Smith Academy.

The show, he said, “features step-by-step instructions in handling some of the most challenging behavior parents have to deal with.”

Corbett is the author of “Love Limits & Lessons: A Parent’s Guide to Raising Cooperative Kids.”

Using a talk show format, the show addresses parenting questions, with Corbett discussing topics with two guests before a live audience at a public access cable television studio in Enfield, Conn.

The show, which ends with Corbett answering a parent’s query sent in via email, airs on 250 public access stations across the country, as well as in New Zealand and South Africa.

In this area, the show can be seen on Northampton’s Community Television channels 12 and 15 on Mondays at 9 a.m. and on Easthampton’s Community Television Channel 5 on Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m.

More information on the show, including how to view it live, is available at www.CooperativeKids.com.
