Zawalicks celebrate 50th anniversary

Joan and Paul Zawalick of Florence celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 10 by renewing their wedding vows at a Mass at Our Lady of the Hills Church in Haydenville. Following the ceremony, they were driven in a 1956 Ford Fairlane to the Florentine Room at the Bluebonnet in Northampton, where they were surprised by family and friends.
Joan Orszulak and Paul Zawalick were married on Nov. 10, 1962, in St. Peter and Paul Church in Three Rivers.
They have three children, Stan Zawalick, who lives in Florence with his wife, Kathy; Andrea Smith, who lives in Conway with her husband, Jeffrey; and Timothy Zawalick of Florence. The couple have seven grandchildren.
Joan Zawalick graduated from Palmer High School and the Westfield State Sanitorium School of Nursing. She worked at Wing Memorial Hospital and for Dr. Harry Anton, and is now retired. Paul Zawalick graduated from Smith Vocational High School in Northampton. He was a member of Local 98 of the International Union of Operating Engineers and worked for Eastern Equipment Inc., Ted Ondrick Co. and Bruschi Brothers Inc. He is also retired.
