Police stop Williamsburg man attempting to drive vehicle with flat tire, smashed front end, deployed air bags

— Police cited a Williamsburg man for leaving the scene of property damage after allegedly continuing to drive after smashing the front end of his car.

Police said Mario R. Gigliotti, 57, of 6 Judd Lane, was spotted driving his 1999 Chevy in the Look Park roundabout with a smashed front end, steam and smoke pouring from under the hood and dragging metal creating sparks.

Police caught up with the vehicle near the intersection of Bridge Road and Cooke Avenue, where they said they found Gigliotti in the car with both air bags fully deployed, the driver’s side bag obscuring his vision.

The car also had severe front-end damage, a missing bumper, a flat tire, crushed hood and a smashed windshield, according to police.

Gigliotti was treated at the scene but refused to be transported to a hospital. Police said there was no odor of alcohol and Gigliotti passed a series of field sobriety tests administered by police.

Police investigated and found wreckage and debris, including a Chevrolet logo and a bumper near the site of a collision between a vehicle and a cement barrier and curb on Bridge Road.

In addition to the citation, Gigliotti was reported to the Registry of Motor Vehicles as an immediate threat, according to police.
