Hampshire County house sales rose 33.8 percent in October
NORTHAMPTON — The real estate market in Hampshire County showed continued signs of expansion in October.
There were 87 sales of single-family houses in October in Hampshire County, compared to 65 in the same month a year ago, an increase of 33.8 percent, according to the Realtor Association of Pioneer Valley. The average sale price in the county increased from $232,611 in October 2011 to $239,725 last month, according to the association.
The number of single-family houses on the market in the three-county area dropped from 3,058 in October 2011 to 2,861 last month. The supply of houses at the current rate of sale, 10.2 months in October 2011, dropped to 7.1 months, indicating a market that is more balanced between buyers and sellers, according to the association. That statistic measures how long it takes to sell an average property.
The median sales price in the three-county region in October was still 13.9 percent lower than in October 2005.
