Aaron Graveline of Huntington held on charges of beating, threatening to kill girlfriend

Aaron J. Graveline, 33, of 29 Russell Road, apt. 207, pleaded not guilty Monday in Northampton District Court to charges of assault and battery, threatening to commit a crime (murder), possession of a firearm without a license and improper storage of a firearm.

According to court records, Graveline’s girlfriend called 911 about 10 p.m. Saturday reporting that she had been punched in the head by Graveline following an argument.

Graveline then allegedly threatened to find his gun, which was kept in the apartment, according to state police reports.

The alleged victim fled the apartment with her daughter and Graveline’s son to her landlord’s apartment next door. She asked Graveline’s son take the gun from his father’s closet, which he did, bringing it to the landlord’s apartment, police said.

According to state police, Graveline showed up at the landlord’s apartment and allegedly threatened to shoot him as well if he found the weapon. The landlord did not allow him inside, police said.

When state police arrived, Graveline had already fled the apartment, and was located some time later asleep in a car outside a Baskett Street home, where he was arrested.

State police said Graveline has no license to carry the weapon in Massachusetts or any other state and it was kept without a trigger lock, unsecured in a canvas bag with four ammunition magazines, one of which was loaded with .40-caliber rounds.

The weapon was described in court records as a Kel Tec SUB 2000, a light-weight, collapsible, semi-automatic rifle.

Graveline, represented by attorney John Drake of Northampton, was ordered held without bail by Judge W. Michael Goggins pending a dangerousness hearing Thursday. That hearing will take up the question of bail.
