Thursday’s golf: Smith Academy edges rival Hopkins Academy

Matt Muccino, Steve Bruscoe and Mike Molloy earned 10 of 12 possible points in the top three spots as the Smith Academy golf team edged rival Hopkins Academy 12½-11½ at the Country Club of Greenfield Thursday.

Muccino earned medalist honors with a 39 and defeated Andrew Omer 4-0 at the No. 1 spot.

No. 2 Bruscoe defeated Austin Brighenti 3-1 and No. 3 Molloy downed Joe Yusko 3-1.

Hopkins (11-2, 7-1 Bi-County East) won the final three positions, but it wasn’t enough to get coach Rick Berger his 100th career victory.

Smith improved to 7-5 (4-4) with the win.
