Wednesday’s high schools: Granby boys basketball rolls past Belchertown

The two-game losing streak didn’t last long for the Granby boys basketball team.

Corey Baker had 31 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as the Rams jumped out early and cruised to an 86-67 road win over Belchertown Wednesday.

Jesse Molin added 19 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals for Granby (15-3, 4-1 Bi-County North), which led 22-14 after one and 45-28 at halftime. The Rams led 70-45 entering the fourth.

Andy Gifford (15 points) hit five 3-pointers and set the school record for most 3s in a career during the win. Gifford, who has 64 this season alone, needed three 3s to tie Jamie Bowen.

Zach Parsons had 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyler Verville added 12 points and seven assists for the Orioles (8-8, 1-4), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.

South Hadley 61, Longmeadow 55 — Evan Marcus shot 12 for 14 from the line to finish with a career-high 25 points as the Tigers (10-7) won at home.

Cam Earle added 14 points for South Hadley, which had already clinched a postseason berth via the 70 percent rule.

Girls basketball

Gateway Regional 44, Franklin Tech 31 — Brooke Fairman scored a career-high 26 points with 14 rebounds as the Gators (12-3, 11-1 Tri-County) earned a home victory.

Hockey

South Hadley 5, Turners Falls 1 — Evan Sullivan had a hat trick to lead the Tigers (11-2-2, 7-0 Wright) to the victory at Fitzpatrick Rink in Holyoke.

The freshman now has 12 goals and 30 points. Beau Kass scored the other two goals for South Hadley, which has earned at least a point in 11 straight contests.

Tim Sweeney, Ben Kravetz and Jeff Beauregard all picked up two assists apiece, while Brian Bak and Tom Crotty had one helper each.

Trevor Peduzzi scored from Ryan Waldron and Ryan Lenois for the Indians (7-7-2, 5-3).

Devin Hoagland stopped 28 shots in the win, and Brandon Bryant made 35 saves in defeat.

Prep schools Boys basketball

Choate 89, Williston 53 — Tyonne Malone scored a game-high 24 points to go with 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats (6-12) at home.

Girls basketball

Loomis 61, Williston 51 — Natalia Ovando posted a game-high 24 points for the Wildcats (7-8), who lost in Windsor, Conn.

Sarah Marion of Granby added nine points.

Girls hockey

Williston 1, Choate 1 — Alex Starzyk’s second-period goal was the lone score for the Wildcats (10-4-1) in the draw at home.

Sydney Belinskas made 40 saves in goal.

Boys skiing

Deerfield Academy earned second place and Williston sixth at the Mount Institute Ski League race.

Dylan Alvarez was the overall winner for Deerfield, while no Wildcats finished in the top 10.

Girls skiing

Deerfield Academy earned third place and Williston fourth at the Mount Institute Ski League race.

Lauren Stobierski was the first-place finisher for Deerfield, while no Wildcats placed in the top 10.
