The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee and the Union 26 School Committee announced Monday that Geryk’s contract will run through June 30, 2018. Geryk was hired for the permanent position in February 2011 after serving as interim superintendent.

Geryk said in a statement that she is pleased to continue working with Amherst, Pelham and the regional schools.

“It is an honor to work with the outstanding faculty and staff in our schools to provide excellent educational opportunities for the children in our communities,” Geryk said. “I look forward to continuing implementation of the exciting initiatives currently under way.”

In the first year of the extension, through June 30, 2014, Geryk will be paid $147,000, the same as this budget year. She notified the committees in March she would not request a cost-of-living adjustment due to the current budget situation.

Kip Fonsh, chairman of the regional school committee, said in a statement that extending the contract gives Geryk the chance to follow through on changes she has started.

“During her tenure she has worked diligently and exhaustively to restore stability and functionality to a system that for several years was in serious crisis,” Fonsh said.

Geryk’s work, he said, has included initiating institutional and structural changes that offer a research-based and progressive blueprint for educating local children.

“It is our intention to continue to offer our support to Superintendent Geryk and her staff as they move forward to bring this blueprint to reality,” Fonsh said.
