High schools: John Leonard of Amherst powers Cathedral hockey

John Leonard of Amherst had three goals and two assists to power Cathedral to an 11-1 win Saturday over St. Peter-Marian at The Olympia in West Springfield.

Adam Mercer of Belchertown made three saves off the bench for the Panthers (9-0-1).

Turners Falls 6, Central 5 — Christian Sawicki scored with just over a minute left to lift the Indians in Greenfield Saturday.

Trevor Peduzzi and Cody Booska had two goals each for Turners.

Boys basketball

Amherst 53, Brattleboro Union (Vt.) 46 — Noris Cuevas-Nova scored 18 points and Tyler Peake added 12 as the Hurricanes (8-3) capped the week Saturday with a third win.

Cuevas-Nova added seven steals, while Reed Bixby had seven rebounds.

Boys nordic skiing

Amherst Regional placed third with 63 points in Saturday’s Berkshire League race at Prospect Mountain, Woodford, Vt.

Thomas Jeffries was fifth overall on the long course in 22 minutes, 19 seconds for Amherst, while Nate Corp was 23rd on the short course in 21:31.

Girls nordic skiing

Amherst placed sixth with 84 points in Saturday’s Berkshire League race at Prospect Mountain, Woodford, Vt.

Tulsa Douglas was 17th on the long course in 29:49 for Amherst, while Zofia Noble was 17th on the short course in 21:06.

Prep schools

Williston 66, Avon 37 — Ade Adams led the Wildcats with 22 points, eight rebounds and five steals Saturday. Freshmen Tyonne Malone added 16 points and nine rebounds for Williston.

Girls basketball

Williston 54, Hotchkiss 53 — The Wildcats withstood a late charge by Hotchkiss to win Saturday at home.

Natalia Ovando led Williston with a career-high 27 points.

Boys hockey

Gunnery 4, Williston 1 — Nick Idi scored on an assist from Griffen Foley but Williston lost at home Saturday.

Girls hockey

Williston 2, Kent 1 — The Wildcats won their fourth in a row Saturday in Kent, Conn.

Sam Pratt and Alex Starzyk scored for Williston (8-4).

Morgan Fisher made 25 saves.

Boys squash

Avon 5, Williston 2; Williston 5, Canterbury 2 — Williston split a pair in Avon, Conn., Saturday.

David Fay (South Hadley) and Oliver Demers (Easthampton) earned wins against Cantebury.
