Friday’s high schools: Granby girls soccer stays unbeaten, clinches league title
The Granby girls soccer team continued to roll over opponents as the Rams remained unbeaten and clinched the Pioneer League title with a 3-0 win over host Ware Friday.
Kiley Baran was the lone multiple-point scorer with two assists, one each on goals by Brooke Labrie and Kate Desormier.
Tara Mikalchus scored the other goal on an assist by her sister Erin Mikalchus for Granby (16-0-1, 6-0-1 Pioneer), which will close its regular season Monday.
Brittany Hauschild (two saves) and Melissa L’Heureux (three, including one on a penalty kick) combined for the Rams’ 12th shutout of the season.
Gateway 0, Holyoke Catholic 0 — The Gaels earned a trip to the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Tournament without scoring a goal as all they needed was a tie to clinch a berth and they delivered.
Katie Klejna made nine saves for Catholic (7-6-4, 1-4-4 Pioneer), while Brooke Fairman stopped two for Gateway (10-4-2, 6-3-1 Pioneer).
Northampton 3, Frontier Regional 0 — Leah Tompkins, Lily Glading-Dilorenzo and Lauren McGrath each scored as the Blue Devils (13-1-2) won in South Deerfield. Sage Loomis and Charlotte Maurer each had one assist in the win.
Camilla Bironas stopped 33 shots for the Red Hawks (0-14-3).
Smith Academy 4, Easthampton 0 — Mat Sulda scored twice and set up the other two as the Falcons (12-3-2) rolled in Hatfield.
Derek McMahon and Chris Markham each added a goal, while Quinn Rickert added an assist.
Cam Woodward made six saves to earn the shutout, while Brady Parker had six for Easthampton (1-13-2).
Amherst 2, West Springfield 1 — Alex Laraja and Mike Rock each scored off Eric Gooden assists as the Hurricanes (8-2-5) won at home. Curtis Barnes made five saves in the win.
Holyoke Catholic 5, Mohawk 1 — John O’Hara and Trevor Lewicki each had two goals and an assist as the Gaels cruised in Buckland.
Joe McCoy scored the other goal for Catholic (8-6-4), which completed its regular season. Ryan Lukomski added two assists and Christiano Marconi had one. Tom Heavren (four saves) and Jacob Squires (one) split time in goal.
Hampshire Regional 4, Chicopee Comp 0 — Scott Labrie had a goal and an assist as the Raiders rolled over the Colts at home.
Noah Sandvik, Kevin Brasil and Ryan Luong each had one goal, while Tanner Bzdel, Josh Fasoli and Jeremy Parks added assists. Ben Preston made two saves in the shutout for Hampshire (8-4-3, 6-4-2 Holley).
South Hadley 3, Central 0 — Ryan Dickinson had a goal and an assist and Dante Bottaro registered two assists as the Tigers won at home.
Liam Medina and Mike Paleologopoulos each had a goal for South Hadley (9-5-3, 5-3-3), while Nate Cordova (five saves) and Eric Maryea (three saves) split the shutout in goal.
Minnechaug 2, Frontier Regional 0 — The Red Hawks suffered a rare loss as they fell to the Falcons in Wilbraham despite a strong game by Sydney Judge. Gwen Thayer made three saves for Frontier (13-3-1).
Smith Academy 5, Greenfield 3 — Danielle Duseau and Lauren Grondin each scored two goals as the Falcons closed their regular season with a win at home.
Emiko Barker added a goal for Smith (11-3-4, 5-1-1 North), while Jen Adamites and Ashley Higgins each had an assist in front of Lauren Bradford (five saves).
Northampton 3, Westfield 0 — Missie Maiewski (assist), Emily Alcroft and Kristina Ramsden each scored a goal as the Blue Devils (14-1-3) won on the road.
Emily Biggs and Olivia Cotton each had one assist, while Mary Greco made 10 saves in the shutout.
South Hadley 0, West Springfield 0 — Liz Menard made three saves but the Tigers (6-8-4, 4-3-2 Central) fell at home in their season finale.
Belchertown 3, Franklin Tech 0 — Behind Kim Drawec’ four kills and two aces, the Orioles clinched a spot in the Western Massachusetts Division 3 Tournament with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-10 win in Turners Falls.
Caroline Dziel had 17 digs for Belchertown (10-9).
Ludlow 3, Easthampton 0 — Despite a strong game by Elizabeth Whitney (five kills, three aces, four digs) the Eagles fell 25-19, 25-21, 25-11 in their final regular season game.
Rachena Nhem added 10 assists for Easthampton (15-3), while Kayla McFarland had two kills, three aces and two digs.
Southwick 3, South Hadley 2 — Maddie Kelleher, Liz Militante-Advey and Sarah LaRochelle each had four kills but the Tigers (10-7) fell 16-25, 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15 on the road.
Suffield 1, Williston 0 — Bailey Gawron made seven saves for the Wildcats (5-3-4) at home.
Suffield 3, Williston 2 — Sydney Curley had eight kills, eight aces and four digs but the Wildcats fell 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13 at home.
Khrystyna Vatseba added six kills, seven digs and four aces, and Elizabeth Calderone of Whately chipped in with five assists, six kills, five aces and eight digs.
