Two of the four candidates for the 2nd Hampden and Hampshire District Senate seat have announced campaign kick-off events as they gear up for the primaries Oct. 8.

Easthampton Mayor Michael A. Tautznik is holding an open house at his new campaign headquarters on Union Street Wednesday night. Westfield state. Rep. Donald F. Humason Jr. is planning to kick off his campaign for state Senate at a Sept. 23 event in Holyoke.

Tautznik will face Holyoke City Councilor David K. Bartley in the Democratic primary and Humason will go up against Holyoke Veterans Services Officer Michael Franco in the Republican primary. The winners of those races will be on the ballot of the Nov. 5 special election for the Senate seat that Michael R. Knapik vacated Aug. 9.

Tautznik’s event Wednesday at 7 p.m. will be a celebration of the new campaign office at 52 Union St. There will be a meet-and-greet with Tautznik and people can learn about getting involved, campaign manager Steven Hoeschele said in a press release.

Humason’s event takes place Sept. 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Wherehouse?, an event space at 109 Lyman St. at 109 Lyman St. in Holyoke. There will be a cash bar and attendees can donate, get lawn signs or bumper stickers, and sign up to volunteer for the campaign, Humason said in a statement.

The 2nd Hampden and Hampshire Senate district is composed of Easthampton, Southampton, Holyoke, Westfield, Agawam, Granville, Montgomery, Russell, Southwick, Tolland and parts of Chicopee.
