‘Career criminals’ caught in Easthampton following robbery, chase

Robert Asselin, 31, of Chicopee, was arrested on charges of unarmed robbery, impersonating a police officer, failing to stop for police, operating a motor vehicle to endanger, failing to stop at a stop sign, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, speeding and on a warrant.

His brother, Jamie Asselin, 36, of the same address, was arrested on charges of unarmed robbery and possession of a class B drug (cocaine).

Holyoke Police Lt. Matthew Moriarty said that just before 1:30 p.m. Friday, Robert Asselin told a man on the street near Honey Land Farms at 636 Main St. in Holyoke that he was a police officer and directed him to put his hands on a car. He then robbed the victim, who Moriarty said in a statement was unharmed.

The victim called police and gave a description of the suspect’s vehicle. An off-duty police officer found the vehicle, and when marked cruisers pursued it, the driver fled into Easthampton.

Easthampton police stopped the vehicle on Cottage Street. One of the brothers fled on foot, Moriarty said, but was quickly apprehended by Easthampton police.
