Tuesday’s boys soccer: Brandon Vazquez helps Amherst extend unbeaten streak to five
Brandon Vazquez scored a pair of goals as the Amherst Regional boys soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 5-1 win over Chicopee at Szot Park Tuesday.
Eric Gooden, Jesse Welborn and Adrian Haughton added one goal each.
Erik Schleeweis, Ian Robson, Gooden and Haughton all earned an assist in the win.
Curtis Barnes made six saves for Amherst (4-1-1).
Smith Academy 1, Greenfield 0 — Harry Kennedy scored the game’s lone goal early in the second half to lead the Falcons (5-1-1) to a road victory.
Kennedy’s goal came 5 minutes, 30 seconds into the second half and was assisted by Tyler Gay.
Cameron Woodward made four saves for Smith Academy.
Belchertown 8, Frontier Regional 0 — Wesley Martins and Zach Kuhn each scored twice as the Orioles (6-0) cruised in South Deerfield.
Nate Fournier, James Izatt, Cameron Messier (assist) and Trevor Erb each netted one goal.
Ryan Kearney, Jonathon Kearney, Derek Gariepy, Alex DeSantis and Sam Stroman were all credited with one assist.
Zach Parsons made one save for the Orioles for his fifth shutout of the season.
Shawn Mazur-Garcia and Dylan Husted each had four saves for Frontier (0-6-1).
Granby 1, Holyoke Catholic 1 — Brendan Lavallee saved the Gaels (3-3-1) with a late goal to salvage a tie on the road against the Rams (2-2-1).
Lavallee struck 18 minutes into the second half on a pass from Trevor Lewicki.
Dean Marion gave Granby an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute of the first half. Andrew Strycharz assisted on the goal.
Tom Heavren made seven saves for Catholic, while the Rams’ Brett Sullivan also came up with seven stops.
Hopkins Academy 5, Mohawk 0 — Four second-half goals sparked the Golden Hawks (5-0) in their win on the road.
Evan Delaney, Zach Anderson, Paul Delamy and Ethan Wenner each scored in the second half.
Brennan Mitrolka provided the Golden Hawks’ first-half goal and added a pair of assists, while Tyler Szymkowicz assisted on Hopkins’ first three goals.
Ben Pitta made three saves in the winning effort.
East Longmeadow 2, Northampton 1 — Despite the effort of goalie Jack Haller, the Blue Devils (2-3-2) were unable to contain the Spartans’ attack as East Longmeadow nudged out a win on the road.
Haller stopped 10 shots in the loss, and Casey Intrator scored late in the second half to make the game interesting.
Gateway Regional 4, Turners Falls 0 — Curtis Dowers scored twice and Mike Arel made nine saves as the Gators (3-2-2) earned the shutout in Montague.
Eli Jameson and Zach Mackechnie each scored one in the win, while Denver Yost, Calvin Dowers and Justin Edinger were credited with an assist.
Westfield Voke 7, Smith Voke 0 — Josh Harriman (four saves) and Will Ingram (two) split time in goal for the Falcons (0-6-1).
