Summer sports: King & Cushman goes extra to beat Pettengill Insurance

Cam Woodward scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Northampton King & Cushman Post 28 beat Pettengill Insurance 1-0 in American Legion action at Arcanum Field Sunday

Zach Goodwin-Boyd and Mike Molloy each had two hits. David Longstreeth, David Konowitch and John Grimaldi all had a hit for King & Cushman.

Longstreeth struck out seven, walked two and allowed three hits in the complete game for Post 28 (3-2).

Connor Sheridan, Pat Sears and Scott Bicknell all had one hit for Pettengill.

Matt Beauchemin struck out four and allowed seven hits in the loss.

Amherst 4, Belchertown 1 — Tim Knightly scored two runs in Post 148’s win at Belchertown Sunday.

Ben Sarat earned a run and an RBI, while Sam Johnson had one RBI in the win.

Nick Kubacki and Andrew Davidsohn each had a hit for Post 239.

East Springfield 9, Amherst 3 — Jamie Carey went 2-for-3 with an RBI but Post 148 dropped the second game of its Sunday doubleheader in Amherst.

Easthampton 1, Wilbraham 0 — Adam Krol pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts for Easthampton. Justin Edinger scored the winning run and had a base hit.

Northampton 7, South Hadley 2 — Northampton scored six runs in the sixth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit and win at home Saturday.

Garrett Connly and Hector DeJesus each had RBI singles, while Mikey Gross and Chris Soderberg each had two-run singles in the inning.

Tylor McCallumore and Soderberg each had two hits for Northampton.

Northampton 2, Mohawk 0 — Colby Lander had six strikeouts in Northampton’s win against Mohawk Sunday.

Ben O’Connor and Soderberg both had two hits for Northampton.

Easthampton 6, Mohawk 4 (8) — Brandon Bennett scored four runs for Easthampton in its extra-inning win against Mohawk Saturday.

Dakota Wheeler pitched all eight innings with six strikeouts and gave up only one walk for Easthampton.

Kyle Richard had four RBIs and hit two doubles, while Jamie Ryan had one RBI for Easthampton.

Little League

Lions Club 7, Elks Club 3 (8) — Brigitte Goeller-Slough had 10 strikeouts as the Lions Club beat the Elks Club in the A Division championship Saturday at McDonald Field.

Andrew Grygorcewicz hit a walk-off grand slam in extra innings to win the game.

Doug Pierce, Goeller-Slough and Grygorcewicz all had two hits.

Dillon Diemand (RBI) and Patrick Serio each had a run and a hit for the Elks Club. Noah Brink had a hit and an RBI.

Metro softball

Easthampton 7, Westside 6 (8) — Caelin Mottor had two runs and had two hits in Easthampton’s win at Westside Sunday.

Moira Pitrat scored two runs and Rachel Connell had two hits.

Easthampton 14, Westside 0 (4) — Emily Czaja had three runs and an RBI leading Easthampton Sunday.

Kelly Avard had a run and two RBIs. Nicole Lewandowski had two runs and a hit for Easthampton.

Amherst 10, Northampton 9 — Jazzy Moonstone had the winning run in Amherst’s win Sunday.

Aliya Bartmon had four strikeouts for Amherst.

Amherst 19, Northampton 4 (5) — Moonstone had three runs for Amherst Sunday.

Brianna Santiago had three hits and Casey Long had a home run for Amherst.

Bartmon finished with 10 strikeouts.
