Hadley boards to review BlueWave solar plans
HADLEY — The Conservation Commission will hold public hearings at 7 tonight in Town Hall on a solar power producer’s plans to install two energy generation facilities in town.
BlueWave Capital of Boston is proposing to build an approximately 1-megawatt solar photovoltaic array in an agricultural field off Breckenridge Road and another 0.7-megawatt solar power facility in an open field on Venture Way in Hadley University Park.
The former project would be located on a 4.6-acre parcel owned by Karl’s Excavating Inc., which co-owner Steve Konieczny said has entered into a long-term lease with Blue Wave Capital.
The Planning Board has scheduled a Sept. 17 public hearing for special permit and site-plan reviews for the Breckenridge Road project.
The Venture Way project would be on land owned by Westmass Area Development Corporation in Chicopee.
BlueWave Capital is the same company that last year inked a 25-year deal with Amherst to provide electricity generated by solar panels at a planned 4.75-megawatt facility on a 35-acre landfill site in that town. That project has been stalled by a lawsuit.
According to its website, BlueWave Capital LLC is a renewable energy project development and management company with a focus on solar photovoltaic development in New England, South Africa and the Caribbean. The company says it has close to 40 megawatts of solar projects under development in the United States and an additional 50 megawatts of projects under development in South Africa and the Caribbean.
