No-hitters and steals of home are rare on their own. The Smith Academy baseball team had both in the same game Wednesday as the Falcons edged Dean Tech 3-0 in Hatfield.

David Longstreeth collected his second career no-hitter. He struck out 12 and walked three in the gem.

In a scoreless fifth inning, pinch-runner Joey Thomas was charging home from third on what was originally a squeeze bunt call. But with the pitcher using a full windup, Christian Smiarowski alertly recognized that Thomas had the throw beat and pulled the bat back.

Smiarowski got the squeeze down on the next play as Keith Natale (two hits) scooted home to make it 2-0.

Mike Molloy (three hits) singled home Jojo Afflitto for an unnecessary insurance run for the Falcons (15-3) in the sixth.

Amherst Regional 8, Northampton 5 — The Hurricanes (12-5) traveled roughly 175 miles to snap their three-game losing streak as they defeated the Blue Devils (7-9) at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Jack Schrader led the attack from the leadoff spot with three hits, two runs and a run batted in. Justin Carey had two hits, two runs, an RBI and four stolen bases, while Jamie Carey drove in three runs on three sacrifice flies.

Jamie Carey went the first six innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Justin Carey came on the in the seventh to earn the save.

David Konowitch had three hits, including an RBI double, and scored a run for Hamp, which brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh. Ben Christopher (two runs) and Zack Goodwin-Boyd (RBI, run) added two hits each.

Hopkins Academy 2, Athol 1 — Sean Quill scored the tying run in the bottom of the sixth and drove in the walk-off winner in the seventh in Hadley.

Andrew Omer tossed a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking two in the complete-game win.

In the sixth, Quill reached on a one-out single and scored on an Evan Delaney single. In the seventh, Quill then scored Jake Kosakowski on an infield single to give Hopkins (6-9, 5-7 Hampshire) its third straight win and keep its postseason hopes alive.

Nick Bernard added a single.

Greenfield 8, Easthampton 1 — Shy Torres doubled home Erik Fickett with the lone run for the Eagles (7-7, 5-7 Hampshire) in the home loss.

Nick Grise and Dakota Wheeler both singled for Easthampton, which could muster just three hits off pitcher Garrett Hudson.

Austin Crow struck out seven with no walks over five innings, while Hunter Leveille fanned three in two frames of work.

Granby 9, Smith Vocational 6 — Teddy Roberts had a two-run home run in the Rams’ five run first as Granby edged the Vikings.

Jake Whitaker had three hits and drove in a run for the Rams (12-4).

Kevin Wackerbarth (RBI), Brandon Wendolowski and Jake Wilson each had two hits for Smith Voke.

Boys lacrosse

Northampton 12, Belchertown 4 — Cody Malone (assist), Ben Davis (assist) and Will Lombardi each scored twice as the Blue Devils (8-7) won easily at home.

Kyle Luzzi (assist), Jake Ross, Simon Harrity, Jared Yarde, Andrew Fleming and Ian Shaw all scored once for Hamp. Matt Pellegrino, Peter Higgins and Jack Shaughnessy each picked up an assist.

Jordan Auffrey scored twice for the Orioles (6-11), while Matt Parent and Jake Downs added a tally apiece.

Tyler Walsh got the win in net with 11 stops, while Travis Greeley made six saves for Belchertown.

Girls lacrosse

Belchertown 15, Pittsfield 5 — Emma Jopson accounted for more goals than the entire Generals roster with five goals and an assist in the Orioles’ win on the road.

Audrey Duhaime (two assists) and Natalie Caney (one assist) each had three goals for Belchertown (12-4-1), while Katarina Lowe rounded out the multiple point club with a goal and an assists.

Brea Allen, Kayla Panek and Meg Foley each had a single goal, while Kate Bowers and Alaina Swift each added two assists, while Emma Cyr added one in front of Abbey Norden, who made six saves.
